Summary: It had been Tifa's idea for them to vacation in Costa del Sol.

It had been Tifa's idea for them to vacation in Costa del Sol. Marlene's father was away again and while she and Denzel usually managed to find ways to keep themselves occupied Tifa had thought it would be nice for them to get to spend some time away from home. And beyond that reason she had been trying to convince him to take a vacation for months. And with the kids needing a break from home she considered it the perfect opportunity to get him to take some time off. But Rude hadn’t been so sure.

So Tifa had decided not to leave it in his hands. If she left it up to Rude then he would never end up asking about taking the time off. So she had gone to talk to his boss about it herself, made her way into the building where ShinRa was rebuilding itself and went to see Tseng in his office- while Rufus may have been in charge of ShinRa, the Turks were Tseng's territory. And if he wanted to give someone some time off then that was his prerogative.

So she sat down at the desk of the man that had been her enemy a few years ago and explained to him that she was starting to worry about Rude working too hard, that she thought he should go and take some time off. And Tseng had smiled a little bit while watching her, this tiny little smile that said he knew there was more to it than just her worrying about Rude. Because no matter how long Rude had tried to keep his relationship with Tifa a secret they all knew. (Reno had never, ever been good at keeping his mouth shut so her biggest mistake was letting his partner know he was now dating the brunette bar owner.)

In the end Tseng hadn’t said anything about how long they all knew the two were dating, said nothing about the gossip that Reno shared with them- the things that Rude himself needed to do a better job of keeping from the aforementioned redhead. All he did was carefully clear his face of all emotion, leaving it stoic and nodded his head just a little bit in agreement, said that it would probably be good for Rude to take some time off. And then, with his boss' permission, Rude had no excuse anymore not to go. (He insisted though that he only hesitated because he was worried Reno wouldn’t do well without someone to babysit him.)

So Rude had gone to Costa del Sol with Tifa and the children she was in charge of, had helped them pack up their things and traveled with them to the beach vacation spot. He spent most of his time watching the kids playing on the beach, watching Tifa sitting with them on the sand building castles, splashing around in the water, her dark, dark hair looking black when it was soaking wet. And while Tifa kept on trying to get him to come on down and spend time with her and the children on the beach playing out in the sun was never his thing. He hadn’t even been partial to it when he was a little boy and his family went to Costa del Sol. The beach just wasn’t his thing.

With all the running around and playing in the sand, with all of the swimming by the time the children had eaten dinner, had taken a bath and changed and Tifa tucked them into bed both Marlene and Denzel had been so exhausted that they had fallen asleep almost the moment that their heads had hit their pillows.

With the children tucked into bed and safe and sound behind a locked door Tifa and Rude had decided that they should spend some time together on their own, some time without the children. (As much as Tifa adored them sometimes she just needed to spend time with adults and only adults. If she spent too much time around the children without adult contact it would drive her nuts.)

Rude had wrapped an arm around the brunette woman's slender shoulders and led her out of the house they were staying in, back down onto the beach that the children had been playing on a few hours before, before it had gotten dark. It was mostly empty now, people having gone inside to sleep or to read, to eat a late meal, to spend time with the people they loved. But for them to be together they had to be back out there on the beach. (At least without the children.)

He spread a blanket out and sat down on it with her and she leaned her slender, solid body against his. In her slender body she was completely solid, muscular beneath his fingers. The first time that he noticed that he hadn’t been surprised. She was a fighter, after all, stronger than you would ever expect given her size. But he had discovered that not so long ago when they were enemies. She had surprised all of them by her strength. And he thinks that the first time he saw it was the moment that he had fallen in love with her, the moment that he realized the one person he loved was probably the one person that he couldn’t ever be with. Because at that time they were enemies.

But they're not enemies anymore. They haven’t been for a while. So when they had stopped being enemies he had seriously considered at least becoming friendly with her. And after a few months of that he and Tifa had started to get close. And soon they had developed a friendship and then- after a lot of meddling from both Reno and Yuffie who had made a surprisingly skilled team- their friendship had developed into something more. Something stronger; something deeper.

Rude can't quite say when it happened- Reno had pestered him to try to find out- but his love for Tifa had changed. At the beginning it had been simple, innocent, the type of love you feel for a crush you know you can never have- or if you can have them it'll only be for a month or so if that long. But it had changed into something stronger. It had become so that he thought of Tifa when they weren’t together, imagined them together in ten, twenty, thirty years. He had gone from loving her in a way that was a distant dream into loving her in a way that felt everlasting.

It had come to the point where if he was ever going to end up with someone for good he could only imagine it being Tifa.

Sitting there on the blanket on the beach Tifa's breath was warm on his neck, warm enough that the cool evening air didn’t seem like it was so cool at all.

"The kids have fun," she whispered against his neck.

"They seemed like they did."

"You could have joined us."

"Spending time on the beach isn't my thing."

"You're on the beach now."

"This is different."

"Is it?"

"It is." Today she had dressed in something a lot lighter than she wore back home- long loose skirt, light shirt. She looked beautiful, ethereal. She looked like an angel in her tan skirt and her dark brown shirt. He could barely stand looking at her because it made his heartbeat speed up and made his throat feel tight, his mouth dry. (It made him wonder for the hundredth time how he had ended up lucky enough to have her in his life.)

"How is it different?"

"It's night." He paused, turned his head to look at her, barely able to see her now through the dark lenses of his sunglasses. "And it's with you."

Tifa smiled and it was lovely. She reached up, plucked his glasses off of his face, folded them up and laid them to rest on the edge of the blanket. "You could have played with the kids. I think they would have appreciated the effort."

"Maybe another time."

"I’m going to hold you to that." She smiled again, wider than before and leaned up, pressed her mouth against his. And just like always he melted into it, let it take control of his body. There was never anything quite like kissing her, never anything that he could compare it to. (He had never enjoyed kissing anyone the way he enjoyed kissing her.)

And just like every time they got time alone, really alone and she kissed him or he kissed her things moved quickly, things moved to a stronger place. He deepened the kiss and she whimpered; his hand went to her leg, slid up beneath her skirt, beneath the cotton fabric of her panties and started to move over her and she whimpered into his mouth. And even though they were in a place that was technically public, a place where people could come and see them it didn’t bother him any. (He couldn’t bring himself to care about anyone or anything but her.)

The skin beneath his fingers grew slick and he grew hard and they didn’t discuss things at that point. There wasn’t any need to. They never did. There was always this silent communication between them at times like this and so he rolled them over so she was on her back, continued kissing her, hooked his fingers around the waistband of her underwear and tugged them down over her thighs, over her knees, took them off entirely and dropped them over by where he glasses were.

Her hands moved to his black slacks, undid the button, slipping it through the loop and tugged the zipper down, tugged his shirt loose. It fluttered around his hips as he moved his trousers and boxers down just enough to have the space needed and once he hiked her skirt up around her thighs he entered her with one quick thrust of his hips.

She moaned softly, the sound swallowed up by his mouth and he started to move slowly first, pulling back from the kiss to look down at her, dark eyes shinning in the moonlight, lips parted slightly, breathy sounds slipping past her lips. She looked beautiful, like a goddess, her hair spread out beneath her head like a halo, her pale skin looking so, so beautiful in the moonlight. (Times like this took his breath away, made him feel like the luckiest man in the world.)

She moaned his name, the sound breathy and soft. And his head started to swim, her body warm and tight and slick around him, clinging onto him. He shuddered, goosebumps breaking out on his skin, the air cool against his warm body. Sweat starts to break out along his spine, on his brow and her hair is starting to stick to the sides of her face. And he started to move faster, thrust inside of her harder, slipped one hand beneath one of her knees and hiked her leg up so it rested higher, closer to his hip.

"Tifa?" It comes out in a heated whisper.

"Yeah?" She looked up at him with hazy eyes.

"You know I love you, right?"

She smiled at him, this sleepy smile. A soft laugh crawled up her throat, slipped past her lips. "You better."

"And why is that?"

"Because if you made me love you and you didn’t love me back I'd kick your ass." And she probably could. He knew she probably could.

But hearing her say that made him smile, made him laugh along with her and presses his mouth against her neck. And then, all at once she tightened around him and her back arched, pressed her chest against his and she stopped laughing, moaned instead and tilted her head back against the blanket. Her orgasm wracked through her body and her toes curled against the blanket, her body clenching around him. he followed her in short succession, tension pooling tight in his stomach and then exploding out of him, his hips stuttering against hers, groaning deeply against her neck.

For a while they just laid there in the moonlight, his mouth pressed against her neck, breathing heavily against her skin and then her fingers started petting the back of his neck. He let out a content sigh.

Laying there with her in the moonlight on the beach he knew that one day, one day hopefully in the near future, he wanted to marry this girl.

<333 I've always loved me some Rude/Tifa fluff. Extra props for turning it into a lemon scene that possessed that was as deep as it was enjoyable. Rude's thoughts on how his love for Tifa had progressed was my favorite thing about this fic. Heartfelt in the stoic, Rude-ish kind of way. So yeah, props on characterization as well.

I really like the idea of them being a family sorta. For some reason, I can picture Rude getting along with the kids better than the rest of the Turks do.

I sort of picture Rude as they type that out of all of them would be the secretly mushiest of parents. Tough as nails when it came down to protecting them but still quite loving. So I love playing around with the idea of Rude as a dad/father figure.
